LABOR-LIBERAL DEAL

  • Many Labor MPs are reliant on Liberal preferences to keep their seats.
  • That is why Labor and the Liberals have done a deal on preferences to protect their seats.
  • Labor will preference the Liberals in seats threatened by Nick Xenophon candidates and some regional seats such as Murray. In return the Liberals will preference Labor in inner city and metropolitan seats.

Labor and Liberal vote together in Parliament. Now they are working together on preferences.

Labor and the Liberals have worked together to:

  • Put in place offshore detention for asylum seekers in camps in Manus island and Nauru.
  • Undermine support for clean energy by slashing the Renewable Energy Target.
  • Put in place data retention laws removing all Australians’ right to privacy.

IT’S HAPPENED BEFORE

  • At the 2013 election Tony Abbott promised Labor the Liberals would preference Labor and they did.
  • At the 2014 Victorian State Election, Labor preferenced climate deniers and the religious-right.
  • In 2004 Labor preferences elected religious-right Family First Senator, Steve Fielding.
